12 Days of Christmas Ideas--Day 5

On the fifth day of Christmas Beyond The Picket Fence showed me...a different place to hang a stocking (not the best rhyme tonight, sorry).  Oh, and before I forget, the Under $100 Linky Party will post as planned tomorrow evening, it will just also have my day 6 idea.
No fireplace?  Want somewhere different to hang a stocking?  How about a locker basket?

Hang it on a couple nails on the wall.  You could then use an S hook, a ribbon or curtain hooks like I did to hang your stockings.  You can read about the stockings here.
The possibilities from there are endless.  I added a bowl for cards and a few favorite Christmas books.  One of those is Tasha Tudor's Becky's Christmas.  The elementary school where I used to teach was discarding and the librarian knew I loved it so she gave it to me!

You could attach cards or Christmas photos with clothespins, hang Christmas ornaments or balls inside, add a candle (it is a metal basket).

 No locker basket?  Use a sturdy woven basket or a wood crate.  Get creative with it!  Find more great ideas at Funky Junk Interiors!

12 Days of Christmas Ideas--Day 4

On the fourth day of Christmas Beyond The Picket Fence showed us all...a shiny wreath made of Christmas balls.  A few years ago I showed you a fall wreath that I had added a silver plated platter to.

 

 I decided I wanted a Christmas wreath that also had a great reflective shine to it.  I know you have seen lots of Christmas ball wreaths--but the silver plated platter as the base is a twist I haven't seen.

I pulled out my box of Christmas balls.  I pick these up at garage sales and thrift stores--the ideas are endless.  See past thing I have done with them here and here.  Some of these are old vintage ones, but some just have that great patina from spending a Montana Christmas outdoors.

 There was no rhyme or reason--I just used a lot of hot glue and eyeballed it.  I will only use it indoors since the hot glue will not do well with the below zero temps.  Fun, shiny and made all from things I have on hand.

12 Days of Christmas Ideas--Day 3

On the third day of Christmas Beyond The Picket Fence showed me...how to make a rustic tree.

This is a very simple project that you can make in under an hour.  I didn't take pictures of the process because it is very simple.  I started with two old pine paneling boards I had rescued from a burn pile.  I screwed them together and then cut an old 2x4 into graduating sizes (no rhyme or reason to this--just eye-balled it).  I painted the boards green and then hot glued them onto the pine paneling to secure them for screwing.  I drilled and screwed from the back and nailed a metal star ornament on the top.

I thought about adding rusty nails to the front to hang ornaments from, but like the simplicity of it as is.  Plus I put it out front where the snow and wind will hit it so I am not sure how the ornaments would do (guess I could use plastic ones--I will have to think about that).  But I love it how it is for now :).

12 Days of Christmas Ideas--Day 2

On the second day of Christmas Beyond The Picket Fence had in store...some ways to modify my existing decor.  On a budget?  Tired of your old Christmas stuff?  Want to simplify?  Get creative and make simple, cheap changes to your existing decor.  For example, remember these Pottery Barn inspired maps that led to my Under $100 Linky Party?

I cut some letters out of glitter cardstock, used washable glue stick and now I have Peace on Earth (get it--peace on the earth maps?).

And remember my art for free (if you have seen Bedtime Stories you know how to say that in the right voice)?  

I punched some cranberry colored berries out of vinyl and stuck them on the existing berries.

Oh, and those cool letters--I bought them a few weeks ago, not a complete alphabet but many--they are old and handmade and came in a great old crate.  They were spelling out my last name, now noel.

My vintage globe got a quick update with a sleigh and reindeer cut from vinyl using my cricut.  No cricut?  Look for stickers or print something from the computer.

12 Days of Christmas Ideas--Day 1

On the first day of Christmas Beyond the Picket Fence showed me...how to make a paper garland for my tree.  Sorry post is late in the day (evening), I had shopping to do today.  And my following posts will be in the evenings so they are up for about 24 hours.

I decided I wanted to make a garland out of paper for my tree.  I have not had garland for a few years because I haven't found something I liked in my colors.  I started by punching out lots of circles from scrapbook paper:

Next I glued circles together so there was print on both sides.  Want to avoid this somewhat tedious step?  Buy 2 sided paper or glue the paper together before punching out circles.

Then I sewed them together, this went quickly, other than I had some tension issues and had to start over half way through.

And that is all--fun garland, in custom colors to fit your needs.  I want to make more to drape around the windows, mirrors, etc.

We had our first real snow, love it.  My daughter said yesterday, "I love this weather, makes me want to have the fireplace going, drink hot cocoa and decoarte for Christmas.  It makes me feel all warm and cozy."  I couldn't agree more, and I have some Christmas things to share, but those will have to wait because I have some great ideas to show from last weeks Under $100 Linky Party!
